What We are Doing for the Uninsured

As a leader in managing Medicaid and SCHIP programs – and with a growing focus on meeting the needs of those persons served by Medicare – AMERIGROUP is also focused on the needs of uninsured individuals.  This diverse population includes individuals who have previously received Medicaid but have lost their eligibility, parents who have children that are eligible for SCHIP but whose employers do not offer them benefits and others who are financially vulnerable and either cannot afford, are not offered or are not eligible for healthcare coverage.  Through our community-based efforts, we encounter uninsured individuals on a daily basis.  

Today, AMERIGROUP provides coverage through state-subsidized programs in both New York and New Jersey.  Several other states that we are working with are considering or implementing coverage expansion through direct subsidies.  Thirty-seven states are now either planning for or have implemented programs to address the need of the uninsured. 

With our experience and emphasis on publicly funded healthcare programs, AMERIGROUP is uniquely qualified to assist our state clients plan for coverage expansion as well as to implement these programs. States have an opportunity to utilize our extensive resources, infrastructure and expertise.
