AMERIGROUP Texas, Inc., d.b.a. AMERIGROUP Community Care

AMERIGROUP participates in the following state Medicaid managed care and Children's Health Insurance Programs:

  • STAR:  The STAR HMO Program is a managed care program for Medicaid eligibles and operates under a federal waiver issued pursuant to §1915(b) of the Social Security Act.  The services are currently available in Bexar, El Paso, Lubbock, Harris, Tarrant, Dallas, Nueces, and Travis CSAs.  AMERIGROUP operates under contact with HHSC in 5 of these areas – Dallas, Harris, Nueces, Tarrant and Travis.
  • STAR+PLUS: The “+PLUS” means adding long-term care services. The STAR+PLUS Program was implemented as a pilot program to administer acute and long-term care services to the SSI population (aged and disabled Medicaid Eligibles) through a managed care system.  The STAR+PLUS program operates under two federal Medicaid waivers under §1915(b) and §1915(c) of the Social Security Act in order to authorize participation and to provide home and community-based services. Currently AMERIGROUP participates in this program in Harris, Bexar and Travis.  SSI clients who are eligible for both Medicaid and Medicare are considered Dual Eligibles.
  • CHIP:  This is the Children’s Health Insurance Program for children under the age of 19.  Families who earn too much money to qualify for Medicaid health care, yet cannot afford to purchase private insurance can participate in the CHIP Program.  CHIP is an optional joint state-federal program designed to offer affordable insurance to low-income families with uninsured children.   A cost-sharing is associated with this program.  AMERIGROUP operates under contract with HHSC in Dallas, Harris, Nueces and Tarrant.
  • CHIP Perinatal:  The perinatal coverage provides prenatal care for the unborn children of low-income women who do not qualify for Medicaid.  AMERIGROUP participates in the CHIP Perinatal Program in the Tarrant service area.
  • State Agency Partners:

  • HHSC (Health and Human Services Commission)
