AMERIGROUP participates in Virginia's two Medical Assistance programs. The first is Medallion II/FAMIS Plus (“Medallion II”), which is the Medicaid program. The second is FAMIS, which is CHIP. These two programs provide health care to most Medical Assistance recipients.

Medallion II / FAMIS Plus: The Medallion II program covers the following populations: TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) adults and children, SSI (Supplemental Security Income) adults and children and aged and related populations. As used in this guide, Medallion II encompasses both Medallion II and FAMIS Plus.

FAMIS: The Family Access to Medical Security Assistance (FAMIS) Program gives full health benefits for children up to age 19, who are not eligible for Medicaid, and whose countable income is at or below 200% of the federal poverty level (FPL).
